Lawrence will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their marriage, Saturday, by keeping open house at the community building in Harlem Springs. Rev. Brady Fisher, pastor of the Harlem Springs Methodist Church, will be in charge of the affair. This worthy couple extend an invitation to everybody to come and join in the celebration of their golden wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence were married at New Castle, Pennsylvania, April 30, 1877. They have three children, Mrs. Blanche Shafer of Warren; Homer K. Lawrence, at home; and Albert W. Lawrence, student at the Bible School at Springfield, Missouri; and three grandchildren. His obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, July 20, 1933. James A. Lawrence was born in Lee Township, Carroll County on April 7, 1855 and died at five o'clock Saturday morning, July 15 at his farm home near Harlem Springs at the age of 78 years. For several years he had been in failing health being confined to his bed occasionally for short periods of time. Last fall he suffered a light stroke of paralysis which tended to bring upon him a crisis a few months later. The first of May last he fell seriously injuring himself from which accident he never recovered. His physical constitution was so weakened by another stroke coupled with advanced age and other complications that a physical collapse quickly brought about his death. On April 30, 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Mina M. Oliver of Trumbull County. To this union were born three children; Blanche L. Shaffer of Warren; Homer K. Lawrence, living on the farm and Albert W. Lawrence, pastor of the Assembly of God Church at Grafton, Illinois. All the above mentioned family are living and are left to mourn his death. He also leaves one brother, Richard A. Lawrence of Carrollton, one sister, Mrs. James I. Brown of Harlem Springs and three grandchildren. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Harlem Springs. He always took an active part in the church as long as he was able to do so and was interested in all community activities. He served the church in the following capacities; Steward, trustee, district steward, recording steward, treasurer and Sunday school superintendent. In the year 1920 he was a member of the general conference of the church which convened at Des Moines, Iowa. Being elected a delegate to this conference is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a Methodist Layman. Mr. Lawrence had also been a member of the grange for over fifty years. On Monday services were conducted both in the home and in the church by his pastor, Rev. C. H. Edgar assisted by Rev. Boyd J. Yorke pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Carrollton.
