Mogren (date and source not listed) In Memoriam of Mr. Johan Sjoqvist Died at his home, eight miles northeast of Tolley, (ND) on Monday, October 3, 1911, Johan Alfred Sjoqvist, age 42 years. The deceased was born in Sweden on April 4, 1869 and married Selma Dahlgren there on February 19, 1895. In 1903 he came alone to America to make a better life for his family and the following year his wife and three of their children followed. Their oldest daughter Esther remained with her grandparents to attend to their youngest son Erick with the plans they would join the family later. As the fates would have it, he never was able to see Erick who was born after his departure from Sweden. His deathbed regret to his beloved wife was that he was not able to bring Esther and Erick to America. None but those who have sat in the shadow of such a great bereavement can justly weigh such a sorrow as the widow now carries. Those who have trod down into the valley of suffering and stood for months by the side of a loved one, as hope after hope dropped away as the petals fall from a fading flower, know that such anguish cannot find solace in the most tenderness of words. Besides his ever devoted wife, he leaves seven children. At the home are Herman, Johan, Ingeborg, Ruth and Edwin and in Sweden are Esther and Erick. We can only offer to these mourners that your beloved one is now safely resting and the burdens that he bore are now no longer his to bear. The funeral services were held from the home and also the Swedish Lutheran Church with the interment in the old McKinney Cemetery.
