In the 1900 census, John was living in Loudon Twp., Carroll County, Ohio. He was listed as John Clotes age 60 born September 1839 in Ohio, his wife Mary A. age 57 born December 1842 in Ohio, their children listed were; James L. age 23 born December 1876, Burten F. age 16 born February 1884, and Maggie M. age 13 born October 1886, all born in Ohio. The census stated they were married for 35 years and had 8 children and all 8 were still living at that time. This was in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, October 12, 1916. Mr. and Mrs. John Clutz celebrated the fifieth anniversary of their marriage, September 25, 1916. It was a happy day enjoyed by old and young. This aged couple are the parents of eight children, four boys and four daughters, all of whom are living; also thirteen grandchildren, all being present except 4 grandchildren. At noontide, when all were ready to partake of the goodly feast, Rev. Walker, pastor of the Reformed church, gave an address and presented each of the parents with a beautiful rocker given them by the children. There were forty-eight present, and all went home saying "It was good to be here." His obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, October 17, 1924. John Chrisostom Clutz, son of George and Kathryn (Wolfe) Clutz, was born in Carroll County, September 24, 1839, and departed this life, September 19, 1924; age 84 years, 11 months and 25 days. He was last member of a family of seven children. On September 25, 1866, he was married to Mary Ann Burrier, and to them were born eight children, all of whom survive: Eliza Ann, Elmer D. and James L. of Germano, Mrs. E. W. Albaugh, of Dennison, Mrs. J. M. Albaugh and F. Burton Clutz of Amsterdam, Edmond P. and Margaret Clutz of Scio; also thirteen grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. His widow also survives, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was a kind husband and a loving father. In early life he was a member of Lutheran Church. Rev. C. F. Rothel of Germano conducted the funeral services, Sunday, September 21, and interment was made in Kilgore Cemetery.
