Description	:	Laura grew up at her parents' Oakland Farm, near Pleasantville, Md. She may have attended the local Youth's Benefit School which was right next to their farm. At some point in her early years, Laura attended the Oxford Female Seminary in Chester County which is probably how she met Dr. Robert S. Dickey, her future husband. Laura married Dr. Robert S. Dickey on Dec 23, 1862: "Married. On the afternoon of the 23rd December, at the residence of the bride, Oakland, Harford County, Md., by Rev. Wm. G. Ferguson, Dr. R. Dickey, of West Chester, Pa., and Laura J., daughter of Alexander Y. Watters, Esq." Aegis, January 1863 The Dickeys had 3 children, but no grandchildren. They made their home on the property where the present day Grandview Christian Church is located. Laura's parents lived across the road. In the Summer of 1882, the Dickey family left Md and headed for a new life in the town of Atchison, Kansas. Laura's mother, Catherine Amoss Watters went West with the Dickeys, spending the final years of her life in Atchison. Laura was active in the local church, while Dr. Robert Dickey had a busy allopathic medical practice. Robert died in 1919 and Laura followed him in 1922. The couple was remembered in Atchison newspapers many years later for their faithful service to the citizens of Atchison, Kansas.
