The Reverend Paul Smalley officiated, with burial in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Born May 9, 1926, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mary Lorraine (Christensen) Bond was the daughter of Arthur W. and Judith M. (Petersen) Christensen. She married George Willard Bond on August 12, 1944, in Council Bluffs. The couple farmed in many areas of Iowa, eventually settling near Arthur, Iowa. Mary worked at the Coast-to-Coast store in Ida Grove and later, after moving into Ida Grove in 1969, was employed at various businesses in town, including John's Super Value, Elias Lockers grocery store, J & J Supermarket, Wilkins Hardware, and Johnson Hardware. She also worked in the dietary department at Morningside Rehab & Care Center. Mary was a faithful member of Faith Community Church (formerly the Church of God) in Ida Grove for many years. In 1999, she was named Lady of the Year. She truly loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and gladly served the church in many capacities until her health would no longer permit it. Mary had many hobbies as well, including music. She played the guitar and sang often with her eldest daughter, Carolyn, at the Ida Grove and Battle Creek nursing homes. She also owned an accordion, a mandolin, a dulcimer, and an autoharp, some of which she hadn't yet learned to play. Mary belonged to a sewing club along with her dear friend, the late Kay Monzo, her daughters, Linda Schumann and the late Carolyn Castaldo, and her daughter-in-law, Signe (Spaeth) Bond. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing Bible trivia, and many other activities. Survivors include three children, Ronald Dean (Trisha Carr) Bond of Union, MI, Willard LeRoy (Signe) Bond of Ida Grove, and Linda Lou (Larry) Schumann of Arthur; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Jeffers of Omaha, NE; two aunts, Peg Jensen of Council Bluffs, and Evelin Mutusky of Illinois. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George; a daughter, Carolyn Sue (Bond) Castaldo; an infant brother, Orville Christensen; and two sisters, Janet Cress and Orvis and her daughter in childbirth.
