She lived in the Geneva vicinity all of her life; receiving her education in the Chelsea country school. Maude was baptized and confirmed in the Chelsea United Brethren Church where she was a faithful member, serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years. In 1945, she moved with her sisters, Viola and Effa, to Geneva. At that time she transferred her membership to the Evangelical United Brethren Church and later to the United Methodist church. She served these churches faithfully and continued to support them when she could no longer be an active member. Upon moving to Geneva, Maude was employed at the Elder Jewelry store for nine years. Her life was one of service to others, from helping her brothers with the farm work and chores to serving family and neighbors when they needed her. Maude was very proud of her heritage and her family of 11 brothers and sisters. She loved to relate stories of the home life she shared with her family. She was especially proud of the large family home that was built by her father. Maude served as the family historian and presented each niece and nephew with a copy of the family history. She took an avid interest in keeping up to date with each new member of the family. In January of 1973, failing health caused her to move to Heritage of Geneva. She enjoyed many happy times with her friends there. Her courteous manner and her life-long habit of saying “thank you” for each kindness shown to her will be remembered by all who loved her. Maude was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and seven sisters. She leaves to mourn nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer and Son Funeral Home in Geneva on Tuesday, August 27, with the Rev. Donald Marsh officiating. Music selections were “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” and “How Great Thou Art.” Those serving as pallbearers were Stan Dowdy, Steve Heath, John Hope, Tom Koehn, David Miller and Lyndon Ochsner.
