Read More	SOURCE: The Nebraska Signal 12 April 1973 MILLER, WILSON JOSEPH—William Joseph Miller, son of Jonas B. and Mary Titus Miller, was born on March 17, 1894, in Chelsea township, Fillmore county, Nebr., and passed from this life at Fillmore County hospital in Geneva on April 3, 1973, at the age of 79 years and 17 days. At an early age he was baptized into the Christian faith at the Chelsea United Brethren church and was an active member of that church and later of the Evangelical United Brethren church in Geneva, upon the merger of those two congregations. On February 14, 1918, he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Nelson at the home of the bride's parents in Geneva. He entered military service on August, 15, 1918, and served to the close of World War I. After his discharge, he resumed farming in the Chelsea community. They moved to Geneva in 1959. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Irene Lucille Ochsner and Doris Mae Marotz. With the merger of the former Evangelical United Brethren and the former Methodist churches, he became a member of the United Methodist church in Geneva and was a very active member of that church at the time of his passing. The Millers had the happy privilege of celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary on February 14, 1973, with an open house at their home in Geneva. In June of 1968, he was installed as Nebraska State Commander of the Veterans of World War I, and served the following year. He has been past district commander and past local commander of the same organization. At the time of his passing he was serving as state chaplain. He was also an active member of Post No. 68 of the American Legion. There were many other activities in the community in which he took an active part: The Noxious Weed Control board; he served on two different occasions as the master of the Geneva Grange; and for many years had served as the community Santa Claus, which endeared him to young and old alike. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Sarah; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo (Lucille) Ochsner of Saronville, and Mr. and Mrs. Chester (Doris) Marotz of Hoskins; five grandsons, Lauren, Lyndon and Lon Ochsner, and Kevin and Kurtis Marotz; four sisters, Effa and Maude Miller; Mrs. Fred (Alma) Fox and Mrs. Harold (Nora) Heath, all of Geneva, as well as a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist church, Geneva, at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 1973, with Rev. John E. Stayton officiating. Mrs. Roger Witt sang "How Great Thou Art' and John Nelson sang "Ivory Palaces" accompanied by Mrs. Richard Ellison. Pallbearers were Ben Fussell, Ronald Krejci, Lowell Heath, Charles Miller, Barthold Hofferber and Richard Nunns. Honorary pallbearers were Abner Chestem, Albert Nelson, John Kotas, Melvin Ralston, Edward Laun, Carl Schneider, Adolf Malm, Fred Stofer and Harry Wilson. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
