Description	:	The funeral for Norris W. Brixey, age 88, of Prairie City, was held on Monday, March 5, at the Beckman Memorial Presbyterian Church in Prairie City. Pastor Brad Burkhalter officiated, with burial in the Prairie City Cemetery. Special music was provided by Edna Judy, Roxanne Seaman, and all of Hazel's grandchildren. Serving as casketbearers were Robert Dulitz, Robert Brixey, James Brixey, Dan Beckman, Evan Davies, Harvey Tidemann. All of Norris's grandchildren were considered honorary bearers. Norris W. Brixey was born on Aug. 11, 1918, to Carle Edward and Essie (Stelting) Brixey at the Brixey homestead in Perkins County, northeast of Strool. He attended country school with his sisters, Iva and Phyllis, and went to Bison High School for one year and graduated from the agricultural program at Brookings in 1938. He worked for farmers in eastern South Dakota during the depression and then came back to farm with his father. He married Hazel Belle Judy on June 15, 1945, at the Strool Community Church. Before they were married they had made plans to live on "Happiness Hill" northeast of Prairie City and after 7 years they were able to move into the house that he had built there. They raised their family there and he taught his sons carpentry and mechanic skills and helped start "Brixey Repair". His love of farming and the drive to support his family led him to lease numerous tracts of cropland and include the whole family in the farming operation. He continued to farm and ranch until poor health forced him to retire and his son Stanley took over the operation. Upon retirement he took up woodworking as a hobby and made numerous items for family and friends. He loved to hunt and many early morning deer and antelope hunts included the whole family. He was a member of the Beckman Memorial Wesleyan Church and served on both the Local and the District Boards of Administration. He served on the local school board and as a member of Gideons International he made many trips to area schools, hospitals, and motels as well as to Seattle, Wash., for Bible distribution. He made two missions trips to Haiti to help with construction projects on the island of La Gonave. He loved the Lord, his wife, his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren and was a Godly example to his family and neighbors. "As for me and for my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15 Norris passed away at his home at Prairie City on February 26, 2007. Surviving family members include his daughter, Marilyn (David) Dulitz, Webster; sons, Tim (Debbie) Brixey, Webster; Stanley (Mary) Brixey, Prairie City; daughter-in-law, Nancy Brixey, Prairie City; 11 grandchildren, Dena Brixey, Denise (Harvey) Tidemann, Iris (Evan) Davies, Jennifer (Dan) Beckman, James Brixey and fiancée, Julia Dixon, Heather Brixey, Kristen Dulitz, Laura Dulitz, Robert Dulitz, Robert Brixey and Jody Brixey; 5 great -grandchildren, Joshua, Dylan, Jaren, and Jaylie Beckman, and Derek Davies; one sister, Phyllis Brixey, Prairie City; two brothers-in-law, Wilmer Bingaman, Hettinger, N.D.; James Judy and his wife, Edna, Prairie City. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel, on December 28, 2006; one son, David Brixey, on August 9, 2005; one sister Iva Miller; one brother Artie Brixey. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Gideon's International and the Jesus Film Project.
