Both were Cotner students. ================================ Lawrence Dry was born October 5, 1892 in Chester, Nebraska, the son of Harley and Mary Krause Dry and received his early education in the Chester schools, graduating from High School in 1911. He also graduated from Cotner College in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1915 and from Yale School of Divinity in 1922. He married Bessie Adams on June 9, 1915 in Chester, and served as pastor of the First Christian Church in Lincoln, from 1915 to 1919. He served as pastor of Mill Plain Union Church in Waterbury, Connecticut, from 1922 to 1927. In January of 1927, he and Mrs. Dry moved to Mitchell where he accepted a call at the Federated Churches, a position he filled until his retirement from the ministry on November 1, 1957. He was installed as Pastor Emeritus of the Federated Churches on May 11, 1958. He was a 60 year member of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 263 and a lifelong member of the Christian Church and a member for more than 50 years of the Federated Churches of Mitchell. Rev. Dry died Thursday morning, October 22, 1981 in a care facility in Mitchell at the age of 89 years and 17 days. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Dry Snider of Mitchell and Elizabeth A. Brown of Western Springs, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Lottie Cummins of Lincoln, and 4 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 25, 1981 in Mitchell with Rev. Carlyle Smith officiating. Burial was in Chester, Nebraska, on Tuesday, October 27, with Jones Mortuary in charge of arrangements. A memorial in the Federated Churches in Mitchell has been established. Rev. Dry had been instrumental in the organization and implementation of the "Potato Car" donations to the Child Saving Institute of Nebraska. For many years he headed the drive to send a railcar of potatoes from the North Platte Valley to Eastern Nebraska for that purpose. He was awarded the "Good Neighbor" Award by the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben, their highest honor. He was also recognized as the Outstanding Rural Minister for Nebraska one year. In addition he had been awarded the Silver Beaver by the Boy Scouts of America, their highest possible honor, for his work in the Tri-State Council of the Boy Scouts.
