In the 1900 census, Robert and his family were living in Loudon Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio. He was listed as age 37 born February 1862 in Ohio, his wife Violet age 30 born 1869 in Ohio, their children listed were; James R. age 13 born August 1886, Grover C. age 11 born August 1888, Jocie A. age 9 born November 1890, Burton J. age 5 born January 1895, John H. age 7 born November 1892, Lizzie M. age 3 born December 1896 and Walter D. age 1 born January 1899, all born in Ohio. Violet's father, James W. Slates, widowed age 62 born May 1838 in Ohio, were living with them. It stated Robert and Violet were married for 14 years, and had 7 children, and all are still living. His obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, November 18, 1943. Robert Davis, 80, of Perrysville, died at his home on Thursday, November 4, 1943. He was born near Kilgore February 26, 1863. His forefathers were pioneers in that community. His entire life was spent in Loudon and Perry Townships. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Kilgore. January 31, 1886 he was married to Miss Violetta Slates. Thirteen children were born to them. Surviving are his widow and the following children; Roy Davis of Carrollton, Mrs. Josie Westfall of Scio, John Davis of Augusta; Merton Davis of Canton, Mrs. Mae Burrier of Germano, Dewey Davis of Coshocton, Fred Davis of Steubenville; Robert Davis Jr., of Perrysville, and Mrs. Viola Grimes of Perry Township. Also, twenty-eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Three grandsons are serving in the U.S. Army; Pfc. Donald Davis with a Ry. Bn. in Iran; Cpl. Floyd Davis, Great Falls, Montana; and Pvt. John Davis Jr. of Camp Philips, Kansas. Two were released from service because of physical disabilities. Services were held Sunday, November 7th in Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Kilgore with Rev. E. O. Graham of Jewett officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.
