Description	:	Samuel Knouff Valentine was born August 27, 1822, in Clear Creek Township, Fairfield County, Ohio, the son of George and Elizabeth Knouff Valentine. He married on September 3, 1846, in Fairfield County, to Rosanna Myers. They were the parents of 6 children: Clarissa Jane, Mary E., Dianna Elizabeth, Louisa Jane, Harriet Ann and Samuel Ellsworth Valentine. Samuel K. K., grain and flour merchant, Stoutsville ; born August 27, 1822. Married, September 8, 1846, to Rosanna Myers. There were born of this union seven children, five of whom are living: Clarissa, born March 24, 1848; Diana, born September 19, 1852; Louisa Jane, born January 2, 1854; Harriet Ann, born September 15, 1861; Samuel, born April 28, 1862. The subject of this sketch resides two miles south of Stoutsville. Mr. Valentine is one of the most prominent men of the township in which he resides." Obituary for Samuel Knouff Valentine from the Circleville Democrat & Watchman of October 3, 1902: "S. K. VALENTINE. Samuel K. Valentine, aged 80 years, a retired stock dealer and grain merchant of Stoutsville, dropped dead, Wednesday morning, 17th, of apoplexy, in a corn patch, a mile from town. Up to his death, he was a man of great activity, always determined to do something. The morning of his death he was as well as usual, and in the most cheerful spirits as he and his grandson, Roy Weimer, started out to cut a few shocks of corn in their truck patch. Roy was with him when he expired. He says his grandfather called him, reeled and fell. He lived a few moments, and seemed to recognize what Roy would say to him, but could not answer. He died where he fell. Dr. H. C. Valentine was summoned, but found life extinct. Uncle Sam, as he was familiarly called, was well-known as a stock buyer over Fairfield, Pickaway and adjoining counties, in the earlier days, when he was extensively engaged in driving stock over the Alleghenies to Eastern markets. His mind was a storehouse of local history, and he could tell persons of the younger generation the story of the ownership and changes in almost any farm, from the time it was entered to the present time. It was his delight to relate reminiscences, which he could tell very entertainingly. Mr. Valentine's wife has been dead several years, and he has been living in comfort with his son-in-law, J. J. Weimer. He was a member of the Odd Fellows' Lodge at Tarlton, and an elder in the Lutheran Church at Stoutsville. He leaves five children. They are S. E. Valentine, a telegrapher of Kent, Portage County; Mrs. E. C. Moore, of North Benton, Mahoning County; Mrs. Simon Shupe, of Amanda, and Mrs. J. J. Weimer and Mrs. M. L. Leist, of Stoutsville. S. E. Valentine, the only son, just left the day previous to his father's death, with his family, after a short visit with his father. Funeral was held Friday afternoon, from the Frame Church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. M. Wenrich, assisted by Rev. J. D. Neff. The Tarlton Lodge of Odd Fellows, of which the deceased was a life-long member, conducted the ceremonies at the grave. Uncle Sam, at the time of his death, was the oldest citizen of Stoutsville. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church all his life, and had been an elder for twenty years."
