Thurza (Algeo) Brown, age 96, of Canton, died Sunday October 2, 2002, in the Pines Nursing Home in Canton after a brief illness. She was born June 8, 1906 in Steubenville the daughter of the late John and Jennie (Noble) Algeo and she has been a Canton resident since 1975. She was a member of Howenstine Christian Church, the Magnolia grange and a former member of the Campbell Rebekah Lodge at Dellroy. Thurza is survived by a daughter, Ruth Shenkle of Canton; two granddaughters and their husbands, Beverly and Ronald Burlingame, Jamie and George Kistler; six great grandchildren; and a dear cousin and her husband, Christine and Daniel Pastor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Brown. They were married February 14, 1927 and Francis died in 1965. Also preceding her was a sister, Mary C. Algeo; and a son-in-law, James R. Shenkle. According to Thurza's wishes, her body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday November 5, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Allmon-Dugger Hively Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Larry Lalama officiating. Inurnment will follow in Harlem Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the time of service at the funeral home.
