Mr. Clerico was employed by the AT & SF Railroad for many years as a salvage officer before he retired. He was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Topeka, the son of Charles John & Catherine Degan Clerico. He graduated from Topeka Catholic High School. Mr. Clerico was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, past grand knight of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2608, the James W. Gibbons Assembly of the Fourth Degree, Moose Lodge No. 555 and the Santa Fe Old Timers Club. He also was a volunteer for Let's Help. If you needed help at any time or anything, "call Vince." He married Lottie Smith in 1974 in Topeka. She died Dec. 6, 1996. Survivors include three stepsons, Michael Smith and Alan Smith, both of Topeka, and Gary Smith, Cherokee; four stepdaughters, Joyce Roberts, Loretta Smith and Marlene Burr, all of Topeka, and Marilyn Krawcsyk, Tampa, Fla.; three brothers, LeRoy Clerico, Wichita, and Leon and Kenneth Clerico, both of Topeka; three nieces, Christine Clerico, San Antonio, Pamela Tackett, Mesa, Ariz., and Jeannie J. Clerico, Topeka; a nephew, David Clerico, San Antonio; 12 stepgrandchildren; and 15 step great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Clerico will lie in state after 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Council No. 2608 rosary and James W. Gibbons Chalice ceremony at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund and sent in care of the funeral home. Topeka Capital-Journal, 1/12/2004
