Boots was born on October 10, 1914 in Cincinnati, Iowa the son of Henry and Daisy(Ervin)Besse. His father Henry was a Civil War veteran. Read More	William Glenn(Boots)Besse age 96 of Cincinnati, Iowa passed away Monday evening, May 16, 2011 at the Golden Age Care Center, Centerville. Boots was born on October 10, 1914 in Cincinnati, Iowa the son of Henry and Daisy(Ervin)Besse. His father Henry was a Civil War veteran. He is survived by the love of his life of seventy four years Leolla(Houser)Besse; his special sister-in-law Lesteretta(Houser)Mathews whom he use to rock to sleep before he and Leolla could go on a date; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews who all loved him; along with a host of friends from all walks of life. Private First Class Glenn(Boots)Besse joined the United States Army in 1941 and served his country until 1943. He served in the Philippines and did field artillery and delivered mail to the service men. Durig his life he was a shcool teacher at two country schools, opened five gas stations, and was a dealer for Sinclair Oil Bulk Company. Boots belonged to the #501 Prosperity Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, and was recognized by the governor of Iowa for being a son of a Civil War veteran. He was also a member of both the Cincinnati School Board and city council for many years. Boots was a faithful member of the Cincinnati West Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ira and Pete Besse; three sisters, Mattie Walker, Maxine Robbins, and Ivy Casiday. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday morning May 19, 2011 at the Lange Funeral Home, Centerville, with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati, Iowa. A memorial has been established to Mercy Hospice and First Christian Church, Cincinnati.
