The funeral services were held at the home of his son, Lewis Kinney, at Ridgeway on Sunday, Oct 15, at 11 am. The remains were laid away in the Ridgeway cemetery. The concourse of friends and neighbors that followed his remains to their last resting place was one of the largest ever seen in this vicinity. Aaron Kinney was born in Pike County, Illinois near Pittsfield, and when a young man moved to Ohio where he was married to Miss Lizzie Oliver. Of this union six children were born, three of whom, Lewis Kinney, Mrs A E Foshay, and Mrs Ellen Tucker, and their mother survive him. Fifty years ago last spring Mr Kinney and his wife came to Kansas and settled on a piece of land about a mile from where his home now is. He took an active part in different things during the early history of this county and at one time, because of their strong pro-slavery views, he and his brother had to leave the neighborhood for a time. His son Lewis, was the second white boy born in this part of the state. All the old timers around here enjoy telling incidents of early history in which Mr Kinney took a part. For a long time Mr Kinney has been suffering from what thought to be exezema which developed into a cancer of the face and neck. Last spring he went to Topeka to take medical treatment of Dr Berry, but the disease continued to grow worse until by first of last week it had gotten so bad that he couldnot take food, realizing the absolute hopelessness of his condition and to get away from the awful pain Mr Kinney ended his life with a 34 revolver. While we all know it is wrong to take human life yet under such circumstances as the above it is almost excusable. Aaron Kinney was born in Pike County Illinois to Thomas & Mary Middleton Kinney on Aug 13, 1831. Aaron was just a small child when his father died on board the steamship "Columbus" on his way from St Louis Missouri to Lexington, Ky. Thomas Kinney having died Sept 10, 1832. Before Kansas was a state Aaron and his brother John traveled to Kansas and then returned to Pike County Ill., making plans to return and settle in Kansas. he was one of the oldest settlers in this part of the state having reached this area April 13, 1855.
