The following provided by Find A Grave contributor "Cara": The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 25 April 1951 Mrs. Barbara Clarke Died in Great Falls Mrs. Barbara Harris Clarke, a native of Fort Benton and a resident of the Highwood section for many years, passed away at the Deaconess hospital in Great Falls on Friday afternoon following a brief illness. The news of her death was received in Fort Benton with genuine sorrow as she was loved and respected by all who knew her and her sudden passing will be mourned by all. Mrs. Clarke was taken suddenly ill at her home on Highwood creek last Thursday afternoon, immediately lapsing into unconsciousness, from which she never rallied. She was taken immediately to Great Falls by ambulance, and passed away on Friday afternoon. Barbara Harris was born in Fort Benton on April 29, 1893, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Harris, pioneer Chouteau county residents. Mr. Harris passed away Jan. 7, 1932. He settled on Highwood creek in 1873, where he engaged in the livestock business for a number of years, later managing the Conrad-Circle Cattle Co. She attended the Fort Benton schools and graduated from Mary's Hall, Faribault, Minn. She was united in marriage in Fort Benton to Edmund R. Clarke on Oct. 20, 1915. With the exception of a number of years spent with her husband, a construction engineer, in various parts of the United States, she maintained her permanent home at their Shelternook ranch on Highwood creek. She was a member of the Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. John Harris; by her husband and two sons, Dr. Edmund R. Clarke of Kenmore, Wash., and John H. Clarke of Highwood; four grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Wilson, Escondido, Calif.; Mrs. Nell Patterson, Whittier, Calif.; Mrs. John Phelan, Fort Benton; Howell Harris, Highwood; Edward and John Harris, Fort Benton; and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held from the Episcopal church in this city, of which she was a member, on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Martin Grissom, pastor. Burial was made in the family plot in Riverside cemetery.
