Peters, pastor of Harsh Memorial United Methodist Church at Harlem Springs, will officiate at the services, to be held at Harlem Springs Cemetery, which will be followed by burial with full military services conducted jointly by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans at the graveside. Yeager, a former Carrol County Sheriff who resided in Harlem Springs, died early Tuesday morning in Aultman Hospital following a two-year battle with cancer. He was born April 13, 1933 in Lee Twp., a son of the late Allen and Pearl (Blazer) Yeager. He was a 1951 graduate of Carrollton High School whose class held its 40th anniversary reunion this past summer. At the time of his appointment as Carroll County Sheriff on November 9, 1958, he was the youngest sheriff in the state of Ohio at the age of 25. He was elected to his first four-year term as sheriff in 1960 and was returned to the office by plurality and landslide votes for six consecutive terms. During his career as sheriff, he organized the Carrol County Mounted Patrol in 1965. He decided to retire and not seek reelection in 1984 and completed 26 years of service when his term ended on January 5, 1985. Upon graduation from CHS in 1951, Yeager worked for the Lee Twp. Board of Trustees until entering the U. S. Army Corpsman (1953-55) with a Korea Military Advisory Group for 14 months in the Republic of South Korea during his two years of military services. Upon returning home from the Army, Yeager accepted employment at the Ames Limestone plant and also worked at the former Carrollton Manufacturing Company. He served as constable of Harlem Springs until his appointment as sheriff in 1958. He most recently worked part-time at the Wagner Oil Company on St. Rt. 43 between Carrollton and Harlem Springs. His memberships include the National Sheriff's Association, Buckeye State Sheriff's Association, Carroll County Veterans Club, Fighting McCook Post 3301, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Carroll American Legion Post 428 and the Pelican Club. He was an honorary member of Carroll Electric Cooperative. Yeager was honored by the former Carrollton Jaycees in January 1968 as the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for 1967. He also was honored earlier this year by the Carroll County Grangers with a National Public Service Award as a non-granger. Survivors include four brothers, Carroll County Treasurer John R. Yeager of Carrollton, Ralph and Donald, both of Harlem Springs, and Thomas Yeager of Louisville; two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Mary) White of Trenton, Florida, and Mrs. Maxine Yeager of Harlem Springs, several nieces and nephews.
