Smith of Kilgore, wife of the ex-county commissioner, died Monday night at 10:30 o'clock in Steubenville. Her demise took place at the residence of Dr. Shultz, where she had been under treatment for four weeks. She had been critically ill two months with a disease of a malignant nature. Funeral Wednesday afternoon from her late home in Kilgore, conducted by Rev. Kinsley of Harlem. She was born in Kilgore in 1851 and on September 28, 1870, was married to her now bereaved husband. Four children were born to them: Mrs. John H. Fawcett, Mrs. D. Wrikeman, Charles H. Smith and Mrs. Howard Phillips of Alliance, all of whom were present at the funeral. There also survives one brother, Heber Stenger of Harlem, and a half sister living in Missouri. She had been a practical Christian and a useful woman all her life, active in church work and zealous in every good cause. Many will miss her ready help and cherry counsel. Her obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, April 21, 1910. Mrs. Emma Jane Smith, wife of former County Commissioner John H. Smith, of Kilgore, died Monday at Steubenville, where she had gone to be treated for cancer. She was buried on Wednesday at Kilgore, the services being conducted by Rev. Mr. McKinley, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was a faithful and consistent member. The deceased, who was a daughter of Elias and Mary Stenger, was born May 28, 1851, in Loudon Twp., and was married September 28, 1870, to John H. Smith. She is survived by Mr. Smith and the following children; Mrs. Mary Fawcett, of Kilgore; Charles Smith, of Louisville, Kentucky; Maude Wrikeman, of Amsterdam; Carrie B. Phillips, of Alliance. Heber Stenger, of Harlem Springs, is a brother, and Mrs. Mary Skiles, of Greenwood, Missouri, and Mrs. Mary Withrow, of Tarkio, Missouri, are half sisters.
