Description	:	Herbert J. "Herb" Meier, 82, of Archbold passed on to his heavenly home on April 22, 2011 at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home where he had been cared for the last two months. He was born November 13, 1928, to Ernest and Elnora Meier in Wauseon, OH. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was trained as an x-ray technologist. "Herb" Meier, 82, of Archbold passed on to his heavenly home on April 22, 2011 at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home where he had been cared for the last two months. He was born November 13, 1928, to Ernest and Elnora Meier in Wauseon, OH. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was trained as an x-ray technologist. A graduate of Wauseon High School, he was a farmer and managed the farm of Dr. L.E. Botts in Wauseon for nearly 40 years. In 1965 he moved his family to Archbold, OH when he took over the Motorists Insurance agency of his father-in-law Ora Rupp, which he owned until 1989. Herb served on the Board of Directors of Sauder Woodworking Company from 1969 to 2001. His primary focus was his family and serving the Lord through his church and generous support of other organizations. He and his wife were ardent supporters of Christian youth ministries. Herb served on the boards of Miracle Camp and the Taylor University Foundation. He was an active member of Archbold Evangelical Church where he served in several areas and the Gideons International. His pride and joy were the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Favorite times were gatherings of family and friends at the family cottage on Bird Lake. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen (Rupp) Meier, whom he married on December 31, 1955; son Dr. John (Linda) Meier of Perrysburg; daughter Sarah (Scott) Wagoner of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren Jacob Meier, Olivia Wagoner, Stephanie Meier, Owen Wagoner, Colson Wagoner, and Rachel Meier; sister Marguerite Kingsby; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard Meier. Visitation will be in the Chapel of Fairlawn Haven, Lutz Road, Archbold, on Thursday, April 28, from 4-8;pm. Burial will precede a Memorial Service which will be held on Friday, April 29, at 11 am at Archbold Evangelical Church with Pastor Jesse Kahler and Rev. Charles Zimmerman officating. The family requests that memorial gifts be given to Miracle Camp, Defiance Area Youth for Christ or the Gideons.
