Description	:	Katherine (Duling) Hoffman, 90, of Roseville, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died Aug. 18, 2013, in Orangevale, Calif., from congestive heart failure. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Folsom, Calif. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Citrus Heights, Calif. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller's Funeral Home in Folsom. Katherine was born on Feb. 8, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of Anthony and Pauline Duling. She graduated from Central High School in 1940. She attended LA City College and UCLA, where she received a BA and teaching credentials in 1945. She was married to Bill Hoffman on June 25, 1949. He passed away on March 25, 2002. She had lived in Sioux City from 1923 to 1940, then in Hollywood, Calif., from 1940 to 1949. She then lived in San Gabriel, Calif., until 1953. She lived in Sacramento, Calif., until 1970. She then moved to the Roseville/Folsom area until 2013. She was employed as a schoolteacher. She was active in the church choir, AAUW and on the stage, performing, singing and dancing. She was an avid bridge and pinochle player. Survivors include her sisters, Mary Lease and Trudy Lousen; son, David and his significant other, Susan; daughter, Jeanmarie Willbee; granddaughters, Jennifer and Kimberly Willbee; and great-grandson, Aaron Downing.∼HOFFMAN, Katherine 'Kathie' (Duling) Beloved mother and grandmother, longtime area resident since 1953, Kathie was active in her church - St Ignatius, Sacramento; and Saint John the Baptist, Folsom; as well as American Association of University Women (AAUW), Roseville. She sang in numerous groups, acted in many stage performances, and was an avid bridge and pinochle player. She traveled extensively mostly in United States, Canada, and Europe. Kathie was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Anthony and Pauline Duling in 1923. She served as yearbook editor and graduated from Central High School (Sioux City) in 1940, Having moved to Hollywood in early'40's, she served as USO hostess at Hollywood Canteen during WWII. She graduated from LA City College and later from UCLA in 1945. She taught elementary school in the Los Angeles area. She met Bill Hoffman at a church social club in 1946, they were married in 1949, settling in San Gabriel. They then moved to Sacramento in 1953, and later resided in Roseville (Granite Bay - Spring Valley Ranchos) and Folsom (Lakeside Village and Pinebrook) until 2013. Kathie's family was always very dear to her. She was preceded in death by son Phillip (1980) and husband Bill (2002). She is survived by son David (Susan); daughter Jeanmarie and family - Kimberly and Jennifer Willbee and Aaron Downing; and sisters Mary Lease and Trudy Lousen, and numerous relatives throughout California and the MidWest. A note of thanks to dear angel, Susan, for all the times she provided care and assistance to Kathie.
