Description	:	Luke Edward Yoder grew up in Kalona, Iowa, the fourth living child of Daniel M. and Nancy (Hershberger) Yoder. Born January 14, 1930, Luke went to heaven on his 85th birthday. Luke always felt blessed that he could attend Iowa Mennonite High School. After graduation, he worked for a time, then moved to Ohio to be near his cousin Allen Gnagey. Read More	Luke Edward Yoder grew up in Kalona, Iowa, the fourth living child of Daniel M. and Nancy (Hershberger) Yoder. Born January 14, 1930, Luke went to heaven on his 85th birthday. Luke always felt blessed that he could attend Iowa Mennonite High School. After graduation, he worked for a time, then moved to Ohio to be near his cousin Allen Gnagey. Luke found work at Sauders and attended West Clinton Mennonite Church where he made many friends including Marilyn Rufenacht. In March of 1953 Luke went to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked in the laundry of a Marymount Hospital as his 1-W assignment. Luke and Marilyn were married in August of 1953. When they later returned to Archbold, Luke found a job as a John Deere mechanic and worked at Liechty Farm Equipment for nearly 40 years. Luke has served as a Sunday School teacher, chorister, choir and quartet member, Torchbearer youth group and Leadership Team member at West Clinton Mennonite Church. Luke and Marilyn also served as church janitors for many years. Luke, along with Marilyn, was one of the founders of our local MCC thrift and Ten Thousand Villages store in Archbold. During retirement, many volunteer days were spent at the store until the summer of 2013. Seeing the store grow, knowing it influenced lives in the community and around the world was a great joy to Luke. In 2002 Luke and Marilyn moved from their family home in the country to an apartment at Fairlawn Retirement Center in Archbold, where Luke enjoyed playing games, exercising, and visiting with friends. In 2003 Luke was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Luke is survived by Marilyn and his sons and daughters-in-laws; Denton & Jan, Tim & Sarah, Ruben & Eileen, and Ramon & Lori of Archbold and Richard, Pettisville. The nine grandchildren- Beth Voll, Rachel Yoder, Miriam Yoder, Luke D. Yoder, Jennifer Yoder, Emily Yoder-Horst, Kelli Yoder, McKenzie Yoder and Brandon Yoder. All grew up in Archbold, enjoying the loving nurture of Grandpa Luke. Nine great grandchildren are also part of the growing family- Dana, Brad, Eric, Felix, Timothy M., Kaden, Alina, Riley, and Esai. Many other people are "adopted" family members in the community and around the world. Luke's living siblings are Leah Roberts, Kalona, Iowa, D. Paul Yoder, Goshen, IN, Eunice and Jim Brenneman, Denver, CO, M. Joe and Carolyn Yoder, Stevensville, MI, Ruby Campos, Oak Park, IL and Phil and Judy Yoder, Iowa City, Iowa. Inlaws include Marlene & Stan Smucker and Dwayne & Bonnie Rufenacht. Preceding Luke in death were his parents and siblings Lois, Rhoda Mae, and Ruth. Luke chose to have his body donated to University of Toledo Medical College and later his cremains will be interred at the Pettisville Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 AM at West Clinton Mennonite Church with Revs. Naomi and Jesse Engle and Julie Elmore officiating. Friends may call at West Clinton from 4-8 PM on Sunday. The family suggests that memorials be given to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).
