On the morning of July 6 the spirit of Mrs. Lydia McIntire took its fight to the other world. Quietly as a star retires before the dawn, she passed out of life through the gates of death. When the curtain fell it marked the close of a long, active and useful career. The maiden name of the deceased was Newcomer. She was born at Connellsville, Pa., in 1831. In 1851 she was married to Steen McIntire of Harlem Springs. To this union were born six children. Her husband and four children preceded her to the better land. The remaining children are Mrs. John Wilson and J. B. McIntire with whom she made her home. Besides the children there are nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. All were present at the funeral. The services were conducted by Rev. Sullivan and her remains were followed to the grave by a large concourse of friends and neighbors. She had long been a member of the Christian Church. Her remains were laid in a beautiful casket and taken to the Harlem cemetery. The floral tributes were lovely. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Dr. G. W. Newcomer, a brother, and Mrs. Dr. Stahl, a sister, both of McConnelsville, Pa. Grandma McIntire was a noble woman, God-fearing, kind and loving. Her disposition was cheerful and her manner always pleasant, and these qualities won and retained for her the friendship and esteem of all with whom she came in contact. Her sickness covered a period of about four months during which time she suffered much but bore it with a Christian fortitude beautiful to behold. All that loving hands could do for her was done, but she longed to be at rest. She would often remark that their loss would be her gain.
