Died Another of Olema's respected citizens, Martin Zoppi, passed away last Friday at the French hospital in San Francisco, after suffering from typhoid fever for two weeks. He was 42 years of age and was a partner with G. Codoni in the meat business. His death was a peculiarly sad one as his wife died some four years ago and now five orphan children are left the oldest being only ten years of age. Published Marin Journal June 5, 1902 Benefit for Children A Fourth of July picnic and dance will be given at Olema for the benefit of the Zoppi children. There will be a picnic and dance during the day and a dance and supper at Druid's hall in the evening. Published Marin Journal June 12, 1902 Guardianship The people of this section, particularly the Swiss element, are very enthusiastic over the selection which the Olema Grove, A.O.U.D., has made in appointing J.A. Codoni, of Tocaloma, as guardian over the five little orphans of Martin Zoppi, of Olema, who followed his beloved wife to the eternal rest. The community has full reason to believe that the children of Mr. Zoppi, deceased, will find in Mr. Codoni a second father, who will look forward for the welfare of the children. Codoni, guardian of the persons and estates of said minors, praying for an order of sale of the real estate belonging to each of said minors, that it is necessary and beneficial for said minors that said real property belonging to each of said minors be sold and the proceeds thereof put out at interest or invested in some productive stock. .... etc.... omitted. Per Wills and Probate records; Giuseppe left the following heirs; Carrie, Isolina, Joseph, Americo and Clito Zoppi, all minor children under the age of 14. Joseph A. Codini applied for and received guardianship of the Zoppi minor children.
