Christner Nafziger (previously of Elkton, MI). Maurice was born April 25, 1927; the youngest of four sons born to Alfred J. and Ruth (Eicher) Nafziger. He grew up on the farm at 20122 SR 2, northwest of Pettisville, where he lived until his marriage to Dorothy in May 1949. The newlyweds resided in Pettisville, where they raised their four children and enjoyed many years together before moving to Fairlawn in October 2002. Maurice was employed first by Archbold Seed & Grain, followed by Zehr & Co. of Pettisville, where he worked closely with his brother, Freeman, for many years. In later years, he worked briefly at Paul's Harness Shop of Archbold, before joining the maintenance department at Sauder's in 1986, where he worked until his retirement in 1993. Maurice and Dorothy were charter members of Tedrow Mennonite Church, where, for many years, Maurice sang in a quartet, taught Sunday School, and served several terms as elder under the leadership of Carl Yoder and later, Randy Nafziger. With his dedication, willingness to serve, and jovial nature, he was a much-loved member of his church family. Maurice's greatest passions included going to garage sales and collecting antiques. He enjoyed playing Rook, Upwards, and doing crossword puzzles. He loved being with family, telling jokes, strong coffee and Dorothy's ground cherry pie. In recent months, he had taken to saying, "Let's go celebrate," and it was understood that meant a trip to McDonald's for coffee and their 4-piece Chicken McNuggets. Maurice's sense of humor endeared him to many. He loved to tell people that his initials, M.E.N., were in the White House, and then watch their faces to see how quickly they would figure it out. He is survived by his four children: Ed (Carmilla) of Archbold, Ken (Rhonda) of Maynardville,TN, Annette Erbskorn of Cleveland,OH, and Darlette (David) Cavin of Knoxville,TN; 13 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. Preceeding him in death were his three brothers: Clifford, Chester, and Freeman, all from Fulton County; and son-in-law, Michael D. Erbskorn of Cleveland,OH. Memorial services will be at 11 AM on Monday at Tedrow Mennonite Church, with Pastor Doug King and Ryan Nafziger officiating. Burial will precede at 9:30 AM at Pettisville Cemetery. Visitation is from 3-8 PM on Sunday at Tedrow Mennonite Church.
