Description	:	Neal M. Burkholder, Wauseon, won his longtime battle with cancer and was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008. He was born Sept. 30, 1957, in Wauseon, the youngest child of Maynard and Mabel (Short) Burkholder of Archbold. Neal attended Pettisville Public Schools. Burkholder, Wauseon, won his longtime battle with cancer and was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008. He was born Sept. 30, 1957, in Wauseon, the youngest child of Maynard and Mabel (Short) Burkholder of Archbold. Neal attended Pettisville Public Schools. Following his graduation, he spent time traveling on horseback through much of the Appalachian Trail. Neal had a lifelong love affair with the outdoors, and nothing made him happier than putting in a good day's work outside. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle through the countryside, and even completed the Tail of the Dragon ride in N.C. while battling his cancer. Neal was a heavy equipment operator for Fulton Mills, Delta, thriving in his position as it allowed him the freedom to be in the out-of-doors. Neal was loved and respected by all whom had the privilege to know him. His life motto was, "A man's testimony is in how they treat other people." Neal lived this motto every day of his life, always putting the other person and their needs ahead of his own. He was a humble man, full of life with every breath he had. He loved his Lord and served Him well. He also cherished his family and many friends, who are left to mourn his passing. In 1983, Neal married Paula, and she survives him. Their children and grandchildren were the jewels in Neal's crown. His legacy includes their son, Scott (Michelle) Carter, and daughter, Jami (Michael) Gregory. The smaller jewels in his crown are grandchildren, Patrick, Vanessa, and Laurel Carter, and Brady, Trent, Megan, and Molly Gregory. Also left to cherish Neal's memory are his mother, Mabel Burkholder; brother, Tony (Linda) Burkholder; and sister, Rise (Ed) Grime. His nieces and nephews, who adored their Uncle Neal, are Derek Burkholder, Jessica (Jim) Miller, Jacqueline Burkholder, and Jordan and Philip Grime. Neal was preceded in death by his father, friend, and mentor, Maynard Burkholder. A celebration of Neal's life was held at the First Church of God in Wauseon on Saturday, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Wesley Glines and Pastor Rex Stump officiating. Neal requested that memorial contributions be made to the Fulton County Relay for Life or to a charity of the donor's choosing. Short Funeral Home in Archbold was in charge of the arrangements.
