Born Jan. 30, 1927, to Emery and Lucinda Lehman Holsopple. He grew up on a farm, helping on the family farm and the family’s threshing crew. He accepted Christ as his Savior in his youth. On April 20, 1946, he married Ida Alwine. Upon their marriage, they started farming a farm on Ham Ridge Road near Davidsville. In 1955, Sam was called up for service. Because of his Mennonite beliefs of peace and nonresistance, he chose an alternate service. He and Ida sold their cows and moved to Rittman, Ohio. While there, he worked at Rittman’s Old Folks Home. Two years later, they returned to the farm close to Davidsville and started farming again. Sam and Ida remained in Pennsylvania until 1987, when they sold the farm and moved to Pettisville, Ohio. He worked at Bil-Jax, Archbold, Ohio, for 10 years. After retirement, he took a job at Sauder Village as a costumed guide. He also peeled potatoes at Barn Restaurant. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Erma (Elden) Short; and brothers, Elvin (Rena) Holsopple and Paul (Julie) Holsopple. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Ida (Alwine) Holsopple; children, Deb Bindschadler, DeLeon Springs, Fla.; Sam (Robin) Holsopple, Pettisville, Ohio; Darla (Chuck) Rohrs, Wauseon, Ohio; and Bill (Beth) Holsopple, Archbold, Ohio; grandchildren, Shonah Tillman; Apryl (Rafael) Nutter Hernandez; Breanna (Chris) Champagne; Hannah Holsopple, and fiance, Todd Navaeu; Daniel Holsopple; and Rebekah Holsopple; and three great-grandchildren; also three great-great-grandchildren. Member of North Clinton Mennonite Church, Wauseon, Ohio. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at North Clinton Mennonite Church, Ohio, Pastors Brad Faler, Glen Coblentz and Bill Holsopple, officiating. Interment will precede at 10 a.m. at Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fairlawn Chapel, Ohio. Short Funeral Home in Archbold, Ohio, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Family suggests memorial donations be made to North Clinton Mennonite Church, Fairlawn Nursing Facility or charity of donor’s choice. (www.ShortFuneralHome.com)
