Collins, 85, who passed away on Sunday at his home at Garden Valley, were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church at Georgetown. THe service was conducted by Georgetown Lodge No. 25, F.& A. M., of which Mr. Collins had been a member for many years. Interment was at Georgetown Cemetery. Mr. Collins was among the best known and most respected mining men of El Dorado County and with the exception of a few years during which he was in Humboldt County, Nevada, he spent his life on the NOrth Side of this county. He was born at Horseshoe, this county, an early mining community on the Middle Fork of the American River almost due north of Canyon Creek School on February 2, 1859. As a young man he was a blacksmith and was employed at this work in the building if the dam at Loon Lake from which Georgetown draws its water supply. Friends recall he is one of the few survivors among those who were employed in this project. In mining he was employed at the old Taylor Mine in the Garden Valley District, and was superintendent of the Alpine Mine, near Georgetown. In Nevada he held a supervisory capacity at the National Mine, near the northern boundry of Humboldt County. Forty-eight years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Collins were married and in their earlier life made their home at Georgetown, moving in later years to Garden Valley. Although advancing years made his participation in mining impossible Mr. Collins retained his lifelong interest in mining and always enjoyed discussing mining practices with friends who sought his counsel. He was a member of Georgetown Parlor, N. S. G. W (Native Sons of the Golden West). He is survived byhis devoted wife, Mrs. Daisy Collins of Garden Valley and one son, Clarence S. Collins, of Placerville. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kenneth Collins, who is in the Navy, and Lois and Loretta Collins of Placerville."
