Teasley, who resided five and a half miles north of Glasco, Kansas and was well and favorably known to the people of Cloud and adjacent counties, passed away on last Sunday morning, the 26th at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 17 days. Deceased was a native of Georgia and was born in Whitfield County in that state February 9, 1845. The family resided there until nearly the close of the war of the rebellion, when they removed to Prairie City, Ill., on account of that part of the south being the seat of war. After peace was declared, they returned to Georgia, to their former home, and in the spring of 1866, the family came to the Solomon Valley and settled two and a half miles northwest of where Glasco is now, on a claim on Fisher Creek. When the Indian troubles in the year 1968 occurred, he with the rest of the family, removed to the east central part of the state and worked on the railroad that fall and the next summer, when the family returned again to the claim. Deceased was married to Nancy J. Stackhouse December 30, 1869 in Ottawa, Kansas and she survives him. There are also seven children, five sons and two daughters, who remain to mourn his departure. He farmed in Ottawa County about two years and then came back to Cloud County and settled on a homestead 5 ½ miles north of Glasco, on which he continued to reside to the time of his death. On August 11, 1891, he was prostrated with paralysis and since then was not able to perform a single day's work. But his faculty for business was not lessened and he acquired a number of farms and other property by wise and honest management. He was highly respected by all who knew him and the large attendance at the funeral bore ample evidence of the high esteem in which he was held. He was a member of the range Line M.E. Church organization near his late home, and as long as he could attend services he did so, and also contributed to its support. The writer of this memorial, though not a Methodist, bears evidence of his faith and humble trust in his Saviour and the comfort he received in his long affliction and helplessness. He was a member of the order of Odd Fellows and belonged to Glasco Lodge No. 188. He was a man of broad charity and recognized good wherever he found it. Having belonged here at Glasco to the lodge since 1883, twenty years, the brethren and also his other many friends know of nothing to mar a splendid memory of him. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. F. McMillan at the house and in the Presbyterian church in Glasco, on the 27th. The lodge of which deceased was a member attended in a body. The ritual of the order was used at the grave and it's beautiful impressive and scriptural readings gave a sacredness to this last act of love in memory of the dead brother. At the church the choir sang a number of beautiful and appropriate selections. The church was not large enough to accommodate the large number who came. The burial took place in Glasco Cemetery. The family and relatives of the deceased return thanks to all who so kindly assisted in their hours of trial and sorrow.
