Description	:	Allen Daniel Gnagey, 84, died peacefully January 30, 2011, at his home at Fairlawn Retirement Community in Archbold, Ohio, with the close support of family and caregivers. Allen is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna Sauder Gnagey. They were married at Central Mennonite Church in Archbold on June 21, 1952. Allen was born in Kalona, Iowa, on October 15, 1926, the oldest of five children of Howard Daniel and Barbara Yoder Gnagey. Surviving siblings include Doris Gnagey, Orange, CA; Mary Potter and husband Jon, Winchester, CA; and James Gnagey and wife Jane, Kenosha, WI. A brother Robert Gnagey preceded him in death in 1994 as well as an infant sister. Allen moved from Kalona, Iowa, to Archbold as a young adult where he began work at Sauder Manufacturing and continued there for 32 years. He paired work at Sauder with farming for many years. After his wife began a bakery in 1976, he shared responsibilities at that business, The Doughbox, for twenty years. Allen and Donna were committed to the Mennonite Church in both local and broader church ministries, giving generously of time and resources. They volunteered on projects in Puerto Rico, Guatemala, and at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. Allen volunteered with Mennonite Disaster Service in several locations and at the Care and Share store in Archbold. He served as trustee for many years and as mentor to young adults at Central Mennonite Church. Allen was a gifted woodworker; he refinished many family heirlooms over the years and crafted wooden bowls and folding tables during retirement. During younger years he enjoyed biking and went on several Outspokin' bike trips. He and Donna supported their children and grandchildren's athletic and other endeavors and took part in family baptisms and graduations, as they were able. They also loved to travel, venturing to Europe and many U.S. states. They especially enjoyed family vacations at the Outer Banks in North Carolina and Laurelville Mennonite Church Center in Pennsylvania. A private burial will be held prior to visitation which will be Saturday, February 5, at the Fairlawn Chapel - 11:00 AM-3:00 PM. A memorial service will follow at 4:30 PM with Reverend Bill Holsopple officiating.
