Description	:	Basil was born on the eastern edge of Kilgore. According to John G. Roof, he lived the rustic life of a farmer and day laborer. He saw many hardships and met with much sorrow during his long life. He lived to bury his wife of his youth and 5 of his children, yet in old age he was cheerful and met his friends with a smile. There Nancy died and on Jan 28, 1891, he married Sarah (Sally) Myers, and thereafter lived in Kilgore. Basil served Loudon twp., as assessor and as township trustee. Basil was listed as a Cooper age 21 born in Ohio, his wife Nancy age 23 born in Pennsylvania, and son Zachariah age 1 born in Ohio. In the 1860 census taken August 15, Basil was living in Loudon Twp., Carroll County, Ohio. His age 30 born in Ohio, his wife Nancy age 31 born in Ohio, children were; Zack (Zachariah) age 10, William age 8, John David age 6, Mary age 4 and Samuel age 2, all born in Ohio. There also was a David Beatty age 23 born in Ohio living with them. He was listed as a farm hand. In the 1870 census taken June 14, Basil was living in Loudon Twp., Carroll County, Ohio. He was listed as a Farmer age 41 born in Ohio, his wife Nancy age 43 born in Pennsylvania, and children were; Zachariah age 20, John D. age 17, Mary B. age 16, Alice A. age 8 and Walter S. age 1, all born in Ohio. Note - for Nancy, in the 1850 & 1870 census it gave Pennsylvania as her birth & state as 1860 Ohio? In the 1900 census Basil was living in Loudon Township, Carroll County, Ohio. He was listed as age 70 born September 1829 in Ohio, his second wife Sarah C. age 56, born June 1843 in Ohio. This was recorded in the Carroll Free Press, Carrollton, Ohio, Wednesday, February 18, 1891. Albaugh--Myers--married January 28, 1891, by Albert C. Gibson, J.P., Mr. Bazel Albaugh and Miss Sarah A. Myers. (NOTE--I spelled their names as they were in the paper.) This article was in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, January 31, 1896: On last Friday Bazil Albaugh had his diseased eye nucleated. He has been without sight in that eye for 10 years and this winter has caused him wonderful suffering. The operation was performed by Drs. Albaugh and Spence. Mr. A. is doing well. His obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, September 13, 1912: Basil Albaugh of Kilgore died Sunday forenoon after a very brief illness and his remains were interred Tuesday in the M. E. Cemetery it that town. A second wife survives him, also three sons and one daughter; J. D. Albaugh of Carrollton, Walter Albaugh of Chicago, Zachariah Albaugh of Tyler, Texas, and Mrs. George B. Smith of Barnesville. Five children are dead. Deceased was born near Kilgore, September 22, 1829, and was one of the pioneers of Loudon Township. He held numerous offices of trust. His affiliation were with the M. E. Church of which he had long been consistent member. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Albaugh, Mrs. Homer Albaugh and Miss Albaugh of Carrollton attended the funeral. His obituary in the Free Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, September 12, 1912: Following a week's illness, Basil Albaugh died Sunday in his home at Kilgore and was buried Tuesday in the Methodist Episcopal cemetery at Kilgore. Mr. Albaugh was born in 1829 on the old Albaugh homestead in Loudon Twp. and passed his entire life in that community. He was twice married, his first marriage being to Nancy Beatty in 1848. He is survived by four children; David Albaugh, of Carrollton; Z. Albaugh, of Tyler, Texas, W. S. Albaugh, of Chicago and Mrs. George B. Smith, of Barnesville, and his second wife. Peter Albaugh, of Tarpon Springs, Florida and Samuel Albaugh, of Shoals, Indiana, are surviving brothers, and Mrs. Sarah Yenne, of Shoals is a sister.
