Read More	Obituary - Edward Gerhard Daubert The Hooper Sentinel May 21, 1931 Edward Daubert Called by death Edward Gerhard Daubert, son of Mrs. Fred Daubert, and a veteran of the World War, passed away on Monday, May 18, at the Oakland hospital following a lingering illness. Mr. Daubert was a life- long resident of the Uehling community and was 35 years and 11 days of age, he having been born on May 7, 1896. He had spent all of his life on the farm, helping his father and after the death of the latter assisting his mother and brothers in the management of the farm. He was a man of exemplary habits, and well like by all. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and later confirmed. He held a membership in the St. Paul Lutheran church north of Hooper. When the World War drew the United States into the great conflict, Edward did his part and entered the service October 2, 1917. After spending the required time in training at Camp Funston, Kansas, he was sent across the seas on June 28, 1918, serving with the 314 Ammunition Train, 89th Division. He saw active service at the front and participated in action in the Tul sector Aug, 8 - Sept. 11, at Saint Mihiel Sept. 12-18 and in the Meuse Argonne drive that ended the war. After the signing of the armistice he spent six months with the Army of Occupation in Germany, and returned home on May 24, 1919, following his discharge. He served his country with honor and distinction, and through he did not come back decorated with medals not named for any citation, his discharge papers bear a remark which equals any or all of these, for written in the bold hand of his Major, and standing out entirely from the rest of the entries on his discharge papers was the one word, "Excellent," as a testimony regarding his character. And as such all friends knew him, an excellent character in every respect as to conduct, home life, citizenship and church. He leaves to mourn his death, his aged mother, and the following brothers and sisters: Frank Daubert and Mrs. John Bengston of the Uehling vicinity, Mrs. Henry E. Kriebel of Tekamah, Mrs. Edwin Edelman of Fremont, and Mrs. Lindquist and Miss Frieda, Fred and Roy Daubert of Oakland. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the St. Pauls Lutheran church in Uehling, the pastor, Rev. H. O. Rode conducting them. Interment was made in the Swaburg cemetery, the services at the grave being in charge of the Noble Lund post of the American Legion of Uehling of which the deceased was a member.
