She had been sick about twelve weeks, and had been a patient sufferer. She was the daughter of Thomas and Susan James, and she was nearly 77 years of age. Read More	Her obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, January 25, 1924. Mrs. Emmaline Slates passed away at her home in Kilgore, Friday, January 18. She had been sick about twelve weeks, and had been a patient sufferer. She was the daughter of Thomas and Susan James, and she was nearly 77 years of age. She was married March 22, 1866, to Clark Slates who died about nine years ago. Three children were born to them; Minnie, late wife of George Davis of Kilgore; Elmer of Carrollton, and Ella, wife of Rev. O. S. Bancroft, Baptist minister at Newfield, New York. Early in life she united with the M. E. Church at Simmons' Ridge. Most of her life had been spent in and around Kilgore. At the time of her death she had been a faithful member of the Methodist Church at Kilgore and prized the church privileges and Christian life very much, and when able was most always to be seen at her proper place at the church services. She was a kind mother, and friend to all, and leaves many friends and a loving memory behind her. Before death she called dear ones to her bedside; told them she felt she was going to her heavenly home and wanted to meet all of her friends there. She survived by three brothers, Morris James, now at Cleveland; Dr. O. T. James of Cory, Indiana, and Samuel James of Scio; and a half-brother, David Yingling of Kilgore; also the son and daughter named above; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at the M. E. Church, Kilgore, her pastor, Rev. F. W. Sigler officiating. Burial was made at Kilgore.
