Her obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, February 18, 1915. Mrs. George Davis, of Loudon Township, died Saturday in her home and was buried Tuesday in Kilgore. Death resulted from pneumonia and came very unexpectedly. Minnie Slates, a daughter of the late Clark Slates, was born in Loudon Township, June 13, 1868, and was married to Mr. Davis, November 19, 1888. One daughter, Florence, died two years ago; Lloyd, of Carrollton, and Raymond at home, are the surviving children. Besides Mr. Davis, a brother, Elmer Slates, of Carrollton, and a sister, Mrs. Ella Bancroft, of Dale, New York, are living. Outside of one year of her life which was spent in Toronto, she had been a resident of Loudon Township. She was a member of the Methodist Church and in her death the community loss an excellent citizen. Her obituary in the Free Press Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, February 25, 1915. Mrs. Minnie Davis, of Kilgore, a highly-respected woman, departed this life February 20, in her 47th year. November 13, 1888, she was married to George M. Davis, by Rev. A. F. Rohr, of Carrollton. Their union was blessed with three children; Florence May, who preceded her to the Heavenly Home two years ago; two sons, Lloyd and Raymond who survive her. She leaves also a mother, Mrs. Clark Slates; one brother, Elmer Slates, of Carrollton, Ohio, and one sister, Mrs. O. S. Bancroft, of Dale, New. York, and a host of friends and neighbors to mourn her loss. While her health had not been good for several years, the end came unexpectedly. The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church in Kilgore, on Tuesday morning, February 23, conducted by her pastor, Rev. John McCleary. She united with the M. E. Church early in life, and remained a devoted, consecrated Christian woman. The day before she passed away, it was beautiful to hear her loving words of counsel, and as she told of the vision she had of heaven, the streets paved with gold, and seeing her father and daughter with many loved ones there. We are conscious of the shadow of a great sorrow and of the light of a great hope. Loved ones feel that with the dear daughter, sister, wife and mother gone, the world cannot be the same again; yet this is an hour of gracious memories and unspeakable satisfactions. We are in this world to accomplish three things; to achieve a character, to make a contribution to the progress of God's kingdom, and to leave a memory that will bless and inspire after we are gone. By the grace of our savior, our sister has been able to accomplish these three things in a remarkable hymns which were sung at her funeral; "In that City." " Lead Kindly Light," and " Nearer my God to thee." The good influence, the encouragement she gave to many who shared her beautiful hospitality, the help her fellowship was in the Church, her prayers, no one but the Heavenly Father can measure how far this life reached in its quiet power. Let the bereaved ones think of those familiar words; " To die is gain;" " To depart and be with Christ is far better."
