W. Bowman, died Thursday at his home in Grinnell. His remains were brought to Coon Rapids Saturday evening and funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. E. Miller in the M. E. church in the presence of a large number of friends, interment being made in the Coon Rapids cemetery. The deceased had lived most all his life in Viola township, Audubon county, where his parents settled about forty years ago. He was an industrious and successful farmer and esteemed by everybody. About 12 years ago his wife, while driving across the railroad crossing near the Keister lumber office, in company with her mother and son, the buggy in which they were driving, was run down by a train and Mrs. Bowman was fatally injured from which she died the next day. He was married again about six years ago to Mrs. Nettie Kindred. Three years ago, Mr. Bowman's health failing him, he moved to Grinnell and retired. He suffered from high blood pressure and a week or so before his death had a stroke of paralysis, which rendered him unconscious until death. James Edward Bowman, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Bowman, was born in Poweshiek county, Iowa, January 17, 1875. Died at Grinnell, Iowa, August 13, 1920, aged 45 years, 7 months and 16 days. Mr. Bowman was united in marriage to Gertrude Gillespie December 17, 1896, who died 1909. To this union were born four children: Harold E., twenty-two years old, Geo. W., nineteen years old, Clifford C., sixteen years old, and Corinne, thirteen years old. His wife was called by death in 1909. Mr. Bowman was married the second time June 10, 1913, to Mrs. Nettie Kindred who survives her husband and to whose care and devotion Mr. Bowman's life was prolonged several months. Mr. Bowman spent practically all of his life in this vicinity, coming to Audubon county with his parents when he was but five years old, remaining on the old homestead until three years ago when he sold out and moved to Grinnell. Mr. Bowman was a member of the M. E. church at Grinnell and a faithful worker in the Sunday school. The deceased leaves the following near relatives, Mrs. A. W. Bowman, mother, Mrs. Charles Price of Dexter, Iowa, Mrs. John Jones, Mrs. Carl V. Ford and Miss Nelle Bowman, all of Coon Rapids, sisters, C. B. Bowman and Ralph Bowman both of Coon Rapids, brothers.
