Stephanie Jean Ketchum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ketchum, Rt. 2, Buchanan, died at 2:30 a.m. today in Pawating Hospital, Niles, Mich., of burns suffered at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when her nightgown caught fire. Mrs. Ketchum, who kept the child home from school because she was suffering from a severe cold, said she was upstairs in the residence when Stephanie decided she would light some candles on the bookcase downstairs. She was standing over a hot air register when she struck the match, her mother reported, and the air fanned the flame against her nightgown. Shock Also Blamed. Physicians said she suffered third degree burns about the arm, shoulders and upper body. Severe shock also contributed to her death they said. Stephanie was born Oct. 10,1948, in Buchanan. She was a member of the Church of Christ Sunday school. Besides her parents, she is survived by three brothers, Louis, Patrick and Jimmy, and two sisters, Robin and Cerese, all at home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Swen Funeral Home. Rev. Robert W. Palmer will officiate, with burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
