Stevens, Retired Engineer, Dies Here Funeral services for Willard D. Stevens, retired locomotive engineer were conducted this morning at the chapel of Edward E. Niehaus Company. Mr. Stevens passed away suddenly Friday at his home, 934 Virginia Street. He had lived at this city for the last ten years, coming here from the Northwest, where for many years he was employed as a locomotive engineer. He was born in Auburn 65 years ago, his family being among the prominent pioneers of that district. He is survived by one brother, Fred S. Stevens of Auburn. His brother came to Berkeley for the funeral services. The Placer Herald, 29 Jul 1933, p3 Death of W D Stevens W D Stevens, brother of F S Stevens, was found dead in his Berkeley home on Friday of last week. It is believed he died of a heart attack on the Wednesday or Thursday before. Mr and Mrs F S Stevens went to Berkeley a soon as they received word. "Bill" Stevens was born and raised in Auburn, being the youngest son of the late Solon M Stevens. He was a railroad engineer and followed that vocation for many years. Later, he turned his attention to engineering, running hoists in the mines in Ophir and other places. He was also a printer, and for a number of years was the foreman in the old Placer Republican office. In fact, Bill Stevens was an all around mechanic, and a good one. During his residence around the bay the past few years he followed his mechanical bent. Bill Stevens was a splendid man in every way. He held membership in Auburn Lodge No 7 IOOF and for many years was its secretary. The Auburn Journal states he was last seen alive on Wednesday.
