Update: This memorial was originally entered in part based on the Fairfield Ledger obituary for Willard (that was not transcribed at the time) which stated his DOB as being Feb. 28, 1914. Upon review of the birth records of Jefferson county, it appears that he was actually born on March 28, 1914 in Black Hawk Township in Jefferson county, Iowa. His original birth record only listed him by his surname, no first or middle given names. A separate entry for him was recorded on April 27, 1942 as an amendment (which can only be done legally by a clerk in the Recorder's office upon judicial direction) which clarified the full name as Willard Coffin, with "Layton" inserted as the middle name. This memorial is now being updated on September 2, 2015 with this additional information. Why the Fairfield Ledger obituary used the wrong DOB isn't known to this contributor, but such things do happen from time to time. ------------------- Obituary transcription added September 2, 2015: Fairfield Ledger Tuesday June 24, 1986 Pg. 13 Col. 1 & 2 Willard Coffin dies in Idaho Willard L. Coffin, 72, of Boise, Idaho, former Fairfield resident, died Monday at a Boise hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Boise with burial there (sic. the cemetery was not named). Coffin was born Feb. 28, 1914 (sic. this is in error - he was born March 28, 1914) in rural Fairfield, the son of John H. and Myrtle Waters Coffin, and lived in Fairfield until moving to Boise in the 1930s. He graduated from Fairfield High School. On Sept. 28, 1938, he married Anna Parani, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Judith Crump, Nancy Eldred, both of Bosie (sic), Janice Overton of Emmett, Idaho; a son, Gary of Boise; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond of Washington, Lester of Boise, Kenneth of Fairfield; two sisters, Mary Boughner of Fairfield and Pearl Waugh of Selma. Two brothers and a sister preceded hi in death.
