Read More	Wilma Ruth Gonzales 11/08/1928 - 04/17/2011 Wilma Ruth Gonzales (Garner) passed away on April 17, 2011 in Auburn, California from complications related to dementia. She was born on November 8, 1928 in Amity, Arkansas to Jasper Lafett (Jack) and Bertha Ann Garner. She was the youngest of five children and enjoyed a happy childhood as the "baby" of the family. She attended Amity High School for two years before the family moved to Foresthill, Calif., in December, 1944. Jack worked in the woods as a timber faller and Bertha worked for several restaurants in Foresthill. Wilma resumed her education at Placer High School in Auburn. In May, 1945 she met her husband-to-be, Jim, who was home on furlough from the Army. However, Jim had to return to the service and the couple did not meet again until October, 1946 when Jim received his honorary discharge. Love at first sight gradually resulted in wedding plans and the two were married on August 12, 1947 in Carson City, Nev. Wilma gave birth to their first child, Lawrence Wayne (Larry) on July 17, 1948 and to their second child, Cheryl Diane on September 29, 1950. The family moved from Foresthill to Baker Ranch in 1951 and lived there until they were able to buy some property closer to Foresthill and start building the family home. She was a devoted wife and mother and stayed very busy raising their children through the 1950's and 60's. Wilma was very active in the community and enjoyed playing cards in the Shuffle Club during the 1950's. She was an active supporter of the Placer County Democratic Party and also served on the Placer County Grand Jury. Wilma was an avid book reader and volunteered at the Foresthill Public Library. She was a charter member of the Foresthill Protestant Cemetery clean up committee and spent many hours on a project to map and catalog the graves. After the children left home, Wilma became interested in genealogy and stayed very busy tracing the family roots. Her research sometimes involved trips to various places in the U.S.A. where old records could be reviewed. Her greatest thrill was when she discovered ancestors that fought in the Revolutionary War. She also learned the science of mushroom identification and had many fun trips hunting morels and boletas with Jim. She loved camping and even learned fly fishing. She enjoyed her home, tending a wildflower garden, and bird watching. Grandchildren began to come along in 1973 and Wilma eventually had five wonderful grandkids to love and cherish for many years. She and Jim always enjoyed taking the grandkids camping, hunting mushrooms, playing croquet, whiffle ball, Old Maid and many other things. Wilma also loved to decorate the home for Halloween and have the grandkids over for a scavenger hunt and lots of games. Wilma had many, many friends and enjoyed a very happy and fulfilling life. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Richard (Jim) of Foresthill, son Larry and his wife Roberta Gonzales of Foresthill, daughter Cheryl and her husband, Ken Nilsson, of Grass Valley; grandchildren Tait (Jennifer) Nilsson of Lincoln, Calif., Angela (Tizok) Del Rio of Ione, Calif., Kristian (Sarah) Nilsson of Elk Grove, Calif., Teresa (Clay Johnson) Gonzales of Foresthill, Calif., Gina (Matt) Kincade of Coos Bay, Oregon. Wilma was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trevor Del Rio of Ione, and Hailey Kincade of Coos Bay. She is also survived by her sweet sister-in-law Emma Garner of Arkadelphia, Ark., close first cousin William Webb of Blue Springs, Mo., and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents, twin infant brothers, sister Ina Lee (Ann) Laucirica and brother J.J. (Junior) Garner. Wilma will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
