Information found in the Adams County Court House, Corning, Iowa, death records, book 5, page 4 Cynthia Ann McClelland, daughter of Paul D. and Elizabeth Anderson Guthrie McClelland was born July 25th, 1852 near Mt. Liberty, Knox County, Ohio and came with her parents to Warren County, Iowa in 1856. In 1859 came with her parents to Adams County locating in the Methodist Grove Community which was the McClelland home for many years. After the death of her parents, Cynthia and her sister, Elizabeth moved to Nodaway, in 1906, where they lived until 1930 when their health failed, they moved to Corning and made their home with their brother, the late Rev. W. C. McClelland and his wife. When their brother's health failed in 1937, they removed to Nodaway where they have been tenderly cared for in the home of their niece Mrs. Chas. N. Kennedy and her husband. Miss Elizabeth having passed to her reward February 15 of this year. The bond of affection which linked the lives of these two sisters was a strong and beautiful one. Miss Cynthia had the misfortune in falling and breaking her hip a week before her death occurred November 14, 1941, her aged 89 years, 4 months, and 10 days. She was converted at an early aged and united with the Baptist Church at Quincy, whose service were held in the old home house, Rev. Peter Anderson, father of the late Orva Anderson was pastor at that time. Later she identified her faith with the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, where she was a faithful member for many years. And on moving to Nodaway, she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian Church where Miss McClelland was a lady of retirement and welcome. In her youth she attended Mosier college and later teachers college, where having become one of Adams County's first teachers. She was a great Christian always finding the good and beautiful things in life and will be missed by many friends and loved ones. Funeral services were held at Mt. Zion, Sunday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Thos. B. Pulber of Corning, Mr. Floyd Walters and nephews of the deceased were the pallbearers. Burial was at Methodist Grove Cemetery.
