Doctor "Jack" Northrop was born May 11, 1861, near Durand, Wis., was the seventh son of ten children born to Flavius and Almira Northrop. With his parents he came to Nebraska in 1872, by covered wagon. They crossed the Mississippi river by ferry and homesteaded near Edgar, Nebr.. It was near Edgar that Mr. Northrop grew to manhood. January 30, 1884, he was united in marriage to Minnie May Cushing. To this marriage union were born six children. Three preceded him in death -- Leo Earl, Lislie M. and Lena Imogene. He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife; a brother, Clayton of Little Sioux, Ia; two sons, Clinton B. of San Diego, Calif., and Edwin W. of Cumberland, Ia.; a daughter, Mrs. Florence May Benson of Omaha; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and friends. Mr. Northrop lived in Hamilton county for about 25 years. He has been an active member of the Aurora Methodist church since October, 1926. He was a wise man. Wise with the wisdom of God. He had heard the divine call and had responded. When the summons came for him to move to his eternal home, he was ready. For just a few days before he said in conversation with his wife, "I am ready to go". He knew, and knowing he entered the place prepared for him by the Christ who said, "I go to prepare a place for you". Pallbearers were John Caldwell, Andrew Grosshans, Ralph Otto, J. H. Van Wormer, J. A. Elkins and H. E. Toof. Interment was made in the cemetery of his former home, Edgar, Nebraska.
