Peter Kenney of Ogallala will also be present. The body lies in state at the McKown Funeral chapel, where relatives and friends will pray the Rosary at 8 p.m. today. Members of the Holy Name society and St. Bonaventure High school graduates of 1960 will recite the Rosary at 8:45 p.m. Dr. Kavanaugh, a World War II veteran, had practiced in Columbus since January, 1947. Previously he had served as a dentist in the Army from June, 1942 to December, 1946, holding the rank of major. During that time he served two and one-half years in Africa and Italy attached to the Army Air Corps. He was awarded the Presidential Citation. A native of O'Connor, Nebr., he was born Oct. 29, 1908, the son of Morgan J. and Sarah Hughes Kavanaugh. Graduating from Creighton University College of Dentistry in September, 1936, he practiced in Pawnee county until entering military service. He married Pauline M. Carson at Table Rock, Neb., on March 5, 1942. In Columbus, Dr. Kavanaugh was a member of St. Bonaventure parish and the Holy Name Society, the Rotary club and American Legion. He also held membership in the American Dental Association and Creighton Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife and five children, Mary, Daniel, Maureen, John and Roger; two brothers, Earl of Ogallala and Paul of Omaha; seven sisters, Mrs. George (Angela) Tschida of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. M. M. (Florence) Sullivan of Spalding, Mrs. Monica Lamb of Omaha, Mrs. Roger (Alice) Mulcahy of Greeley, Mrs. R. J. (Marcella) Ferlic of Carroll, Ia., Mrs. Harmon B. (Mary Agnes) Miller of Atlanta, Ga., and Sister Mary Daniel, RSM, of Joplin, Mo. His parents and one brother, Mike, preceded him in death. Roch Hettinger was celebrant of the solemn high Mass; Msgr. Leo Keating of Grand Island was deacon; Msgr. John Kean of Shelby, sub-deacon, and the Rev. Fr. Timothy Healy, assistant. Also present were Msgr. Peter Kenney of Ogallala, the Rev. Frs. G. C. Messman of Bellwood and Kenneth Schlesser. Pallbearers were Drs. Keith P. Abbott, Robert J. Golonka, Donald E. Irwin, G. P. Mancuso, E. C. Walter and F. J. Wolpart, and honorary pallbearers were Drs. P. W. Elliott, L. A. Proskovec, Ben Triba and H. P. Ziegenbein, all Columbus dentists. Burial was in the St. Bonaventure cemetery with military graveside rites. Those participating were Millard E. Thompson, commander; Lawrence Lassek, adjutant; Roy Bargmann and Ernest and Gus A. Meyer, color guards; eKith [sic] Bryan, sergeant of the firing squad composed of Tony Parr, Bill Putnam, Melvin Deyke and Paul Abegglen; Jack Odgaard and Jim Jura, buglers. Out-ot-town relatives and friends were present from St. Paul, Minn., Carroll and Council Bluffs, Ia., Atlanta, Ga., Joplin, Mo., Denver, Omaha, Ogallala, Spalding, Greeley, Fremont, Grand Island, Buchard, Wolbach, Lincoln, Bellwood, Shelby, St. Paul and Hastings.
