D., is taken the following obituary of Emanuel ("Manny") Mann, a former well known and esteemed resident of Plymouth county and Akron vicinity: Emanuel Mann, son of George Mann and Mary Jane Winch Mann, was born April 9, 1861, near Preston, 11 Fillmore county, Minnesota. D., is taken the following obituary of Emanuel ("Manny") Mann, a former well known and esteemed resident of Plymouth county and Akron vicinity: Emanuel Mann, son of George Mann and Mary Jane Winch Mann, was born April 9, 1861, near Preston, 11 Fillmore county, Minnesota. In 1867 he moved by covered wagonand ox-team, with his parents, to Hamilton county, Iowa, where they lived on an 80-acre farm until the year 1872, when they moved to Plymouth county, Iowa, remaining there until after the grasshopper plague of 1875 and 1876. The family then moved to Jasper county, Mo., where he worked in the zinc and lead mines. He returned to Plymouth county, Iowa, where he was united in marriage with Lavinia J. Pendleton on April 20, 1887. She preceded him in death, having passed away on May 15 1917. To this union was born Jesse J. Mann, Colome, S. D.; Embert E., Mann, Colome, and Carrie I. Dittomore, Alameda, Calif. In 1915 the family moved to Tripp county on a farm one mile from Dog Ear Lake, this1 community being his home for the remainder of his life.He was baptized in the Christian church and was true to this faith until his death. He was one of the pioneer builders of the Lukeview church, a community advancement which he cherished. Grandpa Mann, as he was kindly known to many, loved to tell of his pioneer experiences, both joys and hardships. He lived the spirit of the pioneer by extending a helping hand to many. Those many friends repaid him in his hour of need "by "their acts of kindness and by the many beautiful cards and letters which helped him to bear his illness with greater ease. After all possible medical aid was given him, his request was to return to Tripp county for his remaining days and then to be laid to rest in the Winner cemetery. He departed this life at the home of his son, Embert, on Friday, March 16, 1945, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 7 days. He is survived by his two sons, his daughter, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his sister, Hannah Talbott, of Le Mars, la.; a brother, Elmer Mann, of Joplin, Mo.; Marshall Mann, of Wagner, S. D., and other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held in the Winner Methodist church, Rev. D. W. Nankivel in charge. Interment was in the Winner cemetery.
